The ride to the American War cemetery idea, came about through my brother. He regularly passes this place and noticed the apparent ‘stillness’ and ‘air of loneliness’ of this memorial. Buried here are all the 8th USAAF casualties who made it back to this country, either dead or dying, from bombing raids deep into Germany during the second world war. Alongside these fliers are the American infantry, Navy and Marine dead from ‘D’ DAY and the first few days after this landing on French soil. In total, nearly 4000 brave men.
We both sat and thought that, it might be a nice idea to try and arouse some enthusiasm for a commerative memorial ride in the manner of the RTTW in 08.
Permission to do so has been granted by the US government department responsible for the cemetery and by the Supervisor of the cemetery here in the UK. Oddly, this year, the 4th of July falls on a Saturday and therefore this day was chosen.
If you wish to join in, please register by going to the registration page by using the above link.
A donation will eventually be asked for. This will be £5.00.
For this you will receive a participative ‘patch’ [shown above] for your jacket or vest, plus the double satisfaction of having honoured so many brave men and helped the RBLR raise funds for the ‘POPPY APPEAL’.

Where to send the money and who to make cheques payable to, is on the Registration page.
In the meantime, thanks for your interest, please feel free to leave a comment on the guestbook page and we look forward to you registering to participate.
The link below will take you to the official website of the cemetery in Cambs. Take a look and see where we are going.
